A short Christmas story

December 19, 2017 — 2 comments

We lived in a large house in the country in Canada and it was early Christmas Eve, the time when the Swiss celebrate Christmas.

My husband had taken our three daughters for a spin in the truck. The plan was that upon their return we would all realize that the Christmas Angel must have visited our home and dropped off the gifts under the Christmas tree!

As soon as my family pulled out of the driveway, an icy cold gripped my heart.

I COULDN’T REMEMBER WHERE I HAD PUT THE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!

I started a frantic search from top to bottom. It was one of my most stressful moments in life – I couldn’t believe I couldn’t remember where I had put these presents! And my family was going to be back any minute.

To no avail. I did not find those darn packages!

I was near tears when a thought shot through my mind: my father-in-law had visited us from Switzerland in the fall and helped me wrap the gifts. Surly he would remember where we had put them!

I was in luck. At 3 am in Switzerland Walter was at home! He reminded me laughingly how I had made him stand on the ladder while I passed him the gifts to put on top of the highest garage shelf…

Oh, boy! I managed not a second too soon before everyone got home and Christmas was saved that year. Though only just – and at the cost of a near heart-attack of mine!

But that experience wasn’t half as bad as the year we had to order take-out pizza for Christmas dinner, but that’s a story for another Christmas! 🙂

I wish you a very joyous and happy Holiday without any speed bumps – or that they resolve effortlessly and with a smile. Enjoy this time and see you in the New Year!

    Hi Silvia,
I loved the story. I have had similar Christmas stress because I hid the presents in more than one place.
Also Chris would also buy presents for the kids and hide them and would not tell me that he did and then 15 years later I find toy cars for our now 20 and 22 year old sons.
Chris and I are having the kids all home for Christmas. the day will come that one or all will do other things so we will make the most of it.
Have a very happy Christmas to you and your girls wherever you are.
    Hugs,
    Birgit
